Hayes Wilson Cathey ("Pud") - Requiem aeternam

Hayes
Wilson “Pud” Cathey,
76, retired Colonel and aviation officer for Tennessee Army National Guard
and resident of Hayes Denton Road in the Glendale Community, died Monday,
September 15, 2008 at Life Care of Columbia.
Funeral services will be conducted
Wednesday at 12:00 Noon at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Frank
Smith and Rev. Jim Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Mount Cemetery
with military honors provided by the Tennessee Army National Guard. The
family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols
and Wednesday from 11:00 a.m to service time in the church atrium.

Born
and raised in the Glendale Community in Maury County, he was the son of the
late Harlan Burnett “Zack” Cathey
and Mary Sue Denton Cathey and a 1949 graduate of Culleoka High School.
He was a long-time member of Glendale United Methodist Church.
While serving
on active duty in the U. S. Army, he entered flight training and was certified
for both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. He attained the rank of Colonel
in the Tennessee Army National Guard and at his retirement was serving as State
Aviation Officer. He was assigned duties in Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, and Georgia,
piloting aircraft for several Governors and President and Mrs. Lyndon Baines
Johnson.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Grimes Cathey of the Glendale Community;
two daughters, Suzanne Kay of Chapel Hill and Deborah (Kenneth) Stein of
Nashville; a son, Charles (Debbie) Cathey; two step-sons, Greg Byrd of Enterprise,
Alabama and Jon (Sherrie) Byrd of Samson, Alabama; cousin, Frank Marchand
of the Glendale Community; seven grandchildren, Wesley Lewis, Lindsey Lewis
Eslinger, Sarah Arnold, Anastasia Arnold, Zachary Cathey, Carena Cathey,
and Hank Byrd; a great-granddaughter, Abigail Eslinger.
Active pallbearers are
Danny Auville, Mike Primm, Carl Moore, Roscoe Voss, Roger Gilliam, David Craig,
and Vic Herhold. Members of the Tennessee Army National Guard will serve as
honorary pallbearers.
Deep appreciation is expressed to the Staff of Life Care
Center for their dedicated care to Mr. Cathey and his family.
