Probably the most challenging wood I've found to turn - Maple Amborsia. The dark sections of the wood are caused by the Ambrosia beetle tunneling its way through the maple. Then the tree fills in the cavity with a fungus, which hardens (but not as hard as the maple, which makes it prone to breaking - or catching - during turning.) But I think it worth the effort, since the end-product is quite unique.
